Lame Duck, before they started canning it, was a brewery only beer. The first time I went to the brewery and tried it, it was love at first sight. It left me heart broken though because I couldn’t make it out to the brewery often enough! Then 11 Below expanded their production and that allowed them to begin to can Lame Duck!

11 Below has some of the most unique art work in the city. They stand out on a crowded beer aisle for sure and Lame Duck is no different. They feature a cross-eyed rubber duck in the middle of the ocean with an octopus and shark lurking around front and center on the can. The aluminum can really shines with the blue water and yellow duck popping off the can. Consistent artwork and right in line with everything else they have in cans right now.

Lame Duck pours a clear copper-ish color with a nice white head that floats away like a rubber duck in the ocean. Not much lacing to speak of with an aroma of pine. Lame Duck is a Pale Ale through and through. Perfectly balanced malts and hops with a slight edge going to the hops as you would expect in a pale ale. Lame Duck is a refreshing, slightly hoppy with a dash of malt to finish off this perfectly balanced pale ale.

I gave Lame Duck 4 stars because it is a perfect representation of what a pale ale is supposed to be. it’s crisp and refreshing! Lame Duck will be a pool side beer this summer and a tailgate beer this fall!

If you’ve ever had a pale ale and liked the style, you’ll like Lame Duck. For comparisons sake, it reminds me of Brewston from 8th Wonder.

Lame Duck is available year round in cans, on draft and to go from the brewery! You can find it wherever you normally pick up 11 Below, I got mine from The Brewery!

have you tried Lame Duck? you don’t really have an excuse now that they can and distribute it all over town! Do yourself a favor, check out the brewery, grab a pint and ask them about a 1/2 star review of negative space from untapped. Beers to you, Houston. 🍻
