The Best of the Best Craft Beer Restaurants in Houston, Texas
The lines are becoming more and more blurry between a great craft beer restaurant, a beer bar with good food options, and a food truck park with both. Regardless of the classification, good eats and good beer options abound.
We could probably write a whole post on the meanings of all these different businesses, and maybe we will one day.
But that’s not what you’re here for.
Here’s a list of Houston’s best craft beer restaurants and bars that serve good food.
Inside the Loop
Star Sailor – Heights
Everybody-knows-your-name vibes with a constantly rotating menu of delicious and creative eats. Coffee, wine, and a bunch of local beer options. Marin’s a staple in the Houston beer community, and the team and atmosphere she’s building have been catching a lot of attention since day 1.
Truck Yard – EADO
Huge outdoor beer garden with murals painted by local artists, live music, rotating food trucks, and a hell of a Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich.
Your Pie – Downtown
Handmade pizza with a DIY style menu for sauce, cheese and toppings. Decent beer selection.
D&T Drive Inn – Heights
One part beer bar, one part modest beer garden with a nicely-sized menu of craft beer selection and food trucks. A staple inside the loop that’s changed ownership and managed to thrive with some neat changes.
Hughie’s Tavern & Grille (OG) West 18th
Vietnamese food and 50-some-odd craft beers. One of our absolute favorite spots in town with or without beer, but the beer sure doesn’t hurt.
Southern Yankee Crafthouse – Montrose
Second location of a beloved Northside brewery, but this spot’s about the eats. Gastropub menu with super fresh takes on classic menu items.
Heights Bier Garten – Heights
Elevated pub faire with a lot of patio space and almost 100 draft options including beer, cider, and wine galore.
Holman Draft Hall – Midtown
Industrial-chic gathering space with 100 taps of draft beer and wine and eclectic pub menu.
Rosehill Beer Garden – Cypress
Established by Food Network Personality Eddie Jackson, this outdoor food truck hall has a handful of local beer options and plenty of room for kids to roam.
Situated neatly alongside the Nation’s third biggest port, Houston’s East Side is largely dedicated to industry. There aren’t as many food, beer, and entertainment options on the Eastside of Houston as there are in the other parts of town.
South
Flying Saucer Draught Emporium – Sugarland
200 domestic & international brews paired with pub grub amidst eclectic decor. Nestled in a bustling outdoor shopping centre.
Nobi Public House – League City
Vast beer selection with unique Asian fusion including Vietnamese staples like Banh Mi and Pho.
The Backyard Grill – Jersey Village
Great burgers and better beer with a spacious outdoor patio, plus arcade games and sandbox for the kiddos. Of all the places on this list, BYG is probably the one I’ve been to more than any. They’ve got 48 taps and another ~100 or so bottles at any given time. This is where Josh Olalde, Houston’s most prolific beer photographer, and I met up for the first time.
Yardhouse – Memorial
Upscale American sports bar with huge menu of food and beer.
Crafted Kitchen and Taps – Katy
Elevated pub staples with a tap wall that’s 100 beers deep and very knowledgeable servers. Love this place.
Just about every brewery nowadays has a food truck onsite at least half the time, but sometimes you want a full menu of food to pick from and a handful of local breweries to sample. Hopefully this little list can guide you to satiation over and over again as you check each of them off your list.
