So while I’m usually the one to hit up brewery releases, I was unable to make it out for the can release of B-52’s Wheez the Juice, their “Hazy AF APA (American Pale Ale).” Lucky for me, my colleagues here at Beer Chronicle gifted me a can so I could try it. Shout out to Chris and Tony for doing so!

The can features a simple label with a shot of Pauly Shore “wheezing the juice” (drinking an ICEE straight from the fountain) in the movie, Encino Man. I am not personally sure of the correlation, but that would be a good question to ask next time I find myself at B-52.

When I opened the can and poured B-52’s Wheez the Juice into my glass, I could smell the contents immediately and I would say I was perhaps a foot away from the glass. The aroma was fruitier than any beer I’ve had previously and smelled of pineapples, apricots, and oranges. The beer is indeed “hazy AF” and has a straw color to it. At first glance, you might think it looks more like a hefeweizen.

When I finally stopped inhaling B-52’s Wheez the Juice through my nose, I took my first drink and it was an explosion of fruit flavors. My palate picked up pineapple juice, apples, oranges, and apricots at varying points with no detectable bitterness in the profile. The mouthfeel was creamy, light, and refreshing. I think I now see why they called it “Wheez the Juice”… I want to put my mouth under a fountain of this beer!

I’m giving Wheez the Juice 4.5 stars because of its bouquet of fruit flavors, low bitterness in the profile, and creamy mouthfeel. I still think they should have gone for it and called it a New England IPA, but what’s in a name, huh? Get out there to the brewery and get some of this fantastic beer! Beers to you, Houston.
