H-town stand up!  The Houston Astros are World Series Champs!  I am still in shock and don’t believe it quite yet.  When Baa Baa Brewhouse dropped it’s latest NEIPA Double Play the night of Game 7 it felt like the beer gods were on our side.  Then, as the game moved on it felt like the baseball gods had our back.

I was thrilled to see my favorite watering hole, Drink of Ages had a keg of Baa Baa Brewhouse Double Play ready to roll. The regulars, (Rudy, Jorge) myself and my wife killed the keg before the game ended (Amber actually ended up with the money shot).  It was a combination of nervous sipping and celebration (Springers homer etc.) We watched five of the seven games at Drink of Ages and enjoyed every game.  Jon is a great host and provided free food every game.  We couldn’t have celebrated history in a better place.

Baa Baa Brewhouse Double Play is keg only so the artwork is minimal.  Their social media post had the words Double Play NEIPA on top of a baseball with  the Astros rainbow colors in the background.   6.9% and Galaxy and Mosaic hops finishes out the label.

The nose of Baa Baa Brewhouse Double Play isn’t overly pronounced.  The Galaxy hops definitely come through, while Mosaic is slightly in the background.  Double Play pours a hazy yellow cloud of deliciousness.  The head and lacing are right where a NEIPA should be, not too much not too little.

Baa Baa Brewhouse Double Play has a pleasant citrus flavor at the beginning and finishes with a very slight mosaic flavor at the end.  The mouthfeel is soft and creamy, and the body is very smooth but not too thin.  The astringency is very low and hardly noticeable. The drinkabilty is super easy from beginning to end.

As far as comparisons go, Baa Baa Brewhouse Double Play kind of reminds me of Houston Haze but the flavors are different. The mouthfeel and easy drinkability are the similarities that stick out.  If you like NEIPAs this one is solid and you won’t be disappointed.

Distribution of Baa Baa Brewhouse Double Play is like all the other beers of theirs, very limited and goes quick.   They sent out kegs to Drink of Ages, Moontower, GrowlersUsa Katy, both Hughies, Craft Beer Cellar, The Growler Spot, and Murdoch’s Pub.  Drink of Ages is gone, but check the other places for their stash.   One simple way to try it is to go visit Marcus and Kinga at Baa Baa Brewhouse this weekend because it will be on tap.  Here’s their facebook post from today.  Oh, and they sell 16 oz Crowlers FYI.

Double Play

Baa Baa Brewhouse Double Play is another one of their stellar NEIPAs. They really have the creamy mouthfeel down and they keep getting better and better. I am giving Double Play a very solid 4 star rating. Grab some before it’s all out! Were you able to grab some Double Play for the parade or during this weekend? If so what are your thoughts? Happy World Series weekend! Go Stros!
