Ingenious Cereal Beer Label Design Overview

All the way back in the Spring of 2019, Ingenious was the first brewery to give us a real shot. Their Spring Training label came out, looked off, and we asked if they wanted some help. The rest is history. Since then, we’ve designed their website, their highly sought after Froyo beers, and their Mutagen beers that sold out in 2 minutes flat, video game beer labels, and Infinity Stone labels and merch. None have been more fun to design than these cereal beers. In fact, they were newsworthy.

 

Problem

Create a series of beer labels that pays homage to the Halloween beers of our childhood without ripping them off entirely.

 

Solution

Redraw each of the characters using our own inspiration. Fun fact, Stout Chocula is a 3 way mix of Josh Olalde, Dracula, and Timmy Turner. Google it. Trying to re-create the ghost, Frankenstein, mummy, and vampire in a new and creative way while still retaining the visual recall of our childhood cereals was quite the task.

 

Ingenious has always printed on Silver BOPP labels which allow for an extra layer of creativity. They were one of the many breweries that printed their labels on this shiny, silvery material to make them have a bit more luster on the shelf, but they didn’t take advantage of it fully. Once given the opportunity to design their labels, we started taking advantage of this substrate from day one to create highlights within the artwork using the foil beneath. We also had them add a matte laminate to add an extra layer of tactility and luxury to their boutique beer.

 

We utilized Anthony [and the Beer Chronicle team] to completely rework our branding. This included construction of a new website with eye catching cutting edge features and a fresh can template as our packaged product sales were increasing. Two years later we are continuing to get compliments on our website and “Tony” is still our go-to graphic artist for the multitude of label needs we have. He is reliable and knows how to handle last minute curve balls which are common in our industry.
