This is not JUST a beer review.

This is a heartfelt THANK YOU to each and every Houstonian who has come together during this difficult time.

This is a show of gratitude to the breweries who stepped up and put people before profits.

-To 8th Wonder for physically saving the lives of so many stranded folks.

-To Town in City, Eureka Heights, and many others for holding donation drives.

-To Saint Arnold for giving first responders a free beer.

-To the countless beer lovers, who put aside any Big Beer versus Drink Local divides, and lent a hand to the community in need.

THANK YOU. You are an amazing bunch of humans, and we love Hou. Cheers to putting our city back together one piece at a time.

Let’s be honest, we’ve all got one million things on our minds right now, and reading a beer review isn’t one of them, so I’ll attempt to be brief. Saloon Door was the first brewery I could navigate to after the flooding receded.

To enjoy a delicious, local beer outside the confines of my home (for the first time in almost a week), well, that was heavenly. The solace which came from feeling safe and free cannot be understated. It’s little moments like this that mean so much. Thank you, Saloon Door, for providing me with a temporary respite from reality.

But y’all, Catty Corner Cream Ale really deserves your attention. For a cream ale, it hit the mark almost perfectly, and for a post-hurricane-survival-mode-beer, it was perfect.

The light, vanilla scent reminds me of oreo cookies and childhood innocence. The creamy, light mouthfeel begs you to drink more and more. Seriously, Catty Corner is chuggable. #sorrynotsorry

Without being overly sweet, the tastes of vanilla, roasted nuts, and grain balance well.  Catty Corner Vanilla Cream Ale finishes lightly dry, but just enough to cleanse your palate for the next sip.

If you need a break from cutting sheetrock, pulling carpet, or finding a new ride, head down to Saloon Door for a delicious beer and even better community. Consider supporting the families of Saloon Door owners and operators at this upcoming benefit.

Stay strong Houston. Help your neighbors. Give back. Cheers!

This beer is hurricane approved. It’s sweet, creamy, and damn delicious. Have you tried Catty Corner Vanilla Cream Ale before? Or do you have a beer-related hurricane story you want to share?
