Mother Nature might have you fooled with the ridiculous Texas heat, but summer hasn’t officially began until now.

Also heating up, and pleasantly so, is the Houston music scene. And what, you may ask, screams summertime better than killer live music and thirst-quenching local brews?

Yep, absolutely nothing.

In celebration of summer (official start date today, Wednesday, June 21st), I’m here to bring you some rocking good beer and music pairings. Whether you pregame at a local watering hole, enjoy a pint at the venue, or keep the party going after the bands leave the stage, these complimentary pairs are sure to start your summer on a high note!

Paul Wall and Baby Bash – White Oak Music Hall

While I can’t advocate ridin’ dirty on record, your tastebuds will definitely be bangin’ screw after you crack open a Houston Haze. One of SpindleTap’s latest and greatest releases, Houston Haze, keeps to its promise as a New England IPA. The cloudy color, citrus-packed flavor, and overall creaminess do not disappoint.

Keeping with the mild fruit theme, 8th Wonder’s collaboration with Slim Thug ensures you drink like a boss all night long. This refreshingly light hefeweizen is brewed with pineapple juice, and at only 5% you won’t get too throwed.

The Heights Funk Collective, Dem, Indaskies – Continental Club

The eclectic combination of funk, reggae, and soul will send you out of this world. What better way to travel than by space train…IPA that is. Just like The Heights Funk Collective’s live performance, Eureka Heights packs a solid punch with this moderately bitter IPA.

If you want to change the tune and get a little freaky, funky with your brew, Saint Arnold’s got your back! Raspberry AF starts light and refreshing but ends with a sour, fruity taste you’d expect from a lambic. Again, with such a low ABV, you can get in your day’s worth of fruit without feeling too guilty.

Boomtown Brass Band – MKT BAR

Congratulations, you survived half the weekend! Head downtown to enjoy a stack of chicken and waffles while the spicy New Orleans-style Boomtown Brass Band rejuvenates your soul. Tell the wait staff to forget the mimosas, and bring on the local craft goodness (maybe choose different words though). As it’s name suggests, Sam’s Daily is light and creamy, making it incredibly easy to drink.
